The Mad River Valley has a lot to do in any season and in any kind of weather. A wide variety of art galleries, craft shops and shopping venues can be found throughout The Valley. The picturesque village of Warren, just 10 minutes away, has an art gallery, a gallery of fine crafts and folk art, a pottery shop, two antique shops and a lively, old country store. A veritable plethora of shops are located in Waitsfield - along Route 100, on Bridge Street, in Village Square, or in Mad River Green Shopping Center. There is no shortage of places to spend your time (and your money...). Additionally, there are many antique shops in the region.

If you are looking for indoor exercise, you can find tennis facilities and health clubs in the area. You can play tennis at the Bridges Family Resort & Tennis Club or the Sugarbush Health & Racquet Club. • Grand View Winery, offering specialty and traditional fruit wines, is 45 minutes away in East Calais. They also have a tasting room open year-round at Cold Hollow Cider Mill in Waterbury Center.
• Cabot Creamery Annex Store is 30 minutes away in Waterbury Center. See why Cabot was voted the "Best Cheddar in the World".
• Lake Champlain Chocolates is Vermont's premier chocolatier, offering award-winning confections. They give tours at their Burlington factory. Adjacent to the Cabot Creamery Annex Store, they have a factory store in Waterbury Center.
• Shelburne Museum, hailed as "New England's Smithsonian", is 1 hour away in Shelburne. Regular exhibits and special events. Fantastic art collection. Open May - October.
• Lake Champlain Maritime Museum has two locations in Basin Harbor and Burlington. These will satisfy anyone with an interest in shipwrecks, ship building, or maritime history.
• Rock of Ages Quarry & Visitors' Center, located 45 minutes away in Graniteville, offers summer quarry tours and a year-round granite exhibit.
• Morse Farm Maple Sugarworks, located 30 minutes away in Montpelier, offers tours, tasting, and a gift shop. Taste what 8 generations of maple sugaring experience can do!
• Stowe Village, about 40 minutes north, offers a wide variety of specialty shops. Spend a day and walk around the village!
• Middlebury, about 45 minutes southwest over the Green Mountains, is a lovely college town with many artisan shops, pubs and eateries.
• ECHO at Leahy Center, located 1 hour away on the Burlington waterfront, is a lake aquarium and science center promoting environmental stewardship in the Lake Champlain Basin. Interactive exhibits and daily demonstrations.
