    Weathertop Birdwatching Package
    Weathertop Birdwatching Specials

The Mad River Valley is an excellent location for birdwatching in any season; however, it is extra special in the springtime. With acres of uninterrupted forest in the mountains, birders have the opportunity to witness neotropical migrants in their breeding grounds. Our Green Mountains are home to such birds as the rare Bicknell's Thrush, the Blackpoll Warbler and the Golden-crowned Kinglet.

Journeying to the valley floor, one will find lush agricultural fields and grasslands where the American Woodcock and Bobolink are found. Alder swamps provide breeding grounds for the Yellow Warbler and Alder Flycatcher, while the Mad River provides a haven for Spotted Sandpipers, Common Mergansers and Warbling Vireos.

Plan some time birdwatching in the Mad River Valley this spring or summer, and receive a lodging/dining package at Weathertop which includes a guided walk hosted by our resident birding experts - The Mad Birders. Every walk is unique, featuring different topography and different birds. All guided walks begin at easily located meeting points within a 3-15 minute drive from Weathertop. A list of scheduled walks is provided below. More details can be found on The Mad Birders website. Why not stay some extra days and explore other birdwatching trails of the Mad River Valley on your own? Just bring your walking shoes & binoculars and we'll take care of the rest!

    Vermont Open Studio Weekend

Vermont is home to some of the finest crafts people and artists in the country. The unusual beauty of Vermont's countryside and the solitude and peace found here nurture the creative spirit. Our community of 1500 professional crafts people and artists includes quiltmakers, printmakers, potters, furniture makers, metal workers, weavers, painters, and glassblowers.

Most Vermont craftspeople work in studios located in or close to their residences. These are places of production and inspiration located in downtowns as well as at the ends of dirt roads. Wherever their locations, they are exciting places to visit because they reflect the dynamic yet organized process that is used to produce the finished work of art.

This coming Memorial Day Weekend celebrates the 17th anniversary of the Vermont Open Studio Weekend. More than 264 sites will be open to the public, with more than 300 artists and artisans participating. Many galleries will host educational forums and feature special exhibits in conjunction with this event.

Why not utilize Weathertop Mountain Inn as your relaxing home base for this creative weekend? We are centrally located, and within easy reach of many event participants. Stay with us for Open Studio Weekend and receive a $10/night discount off our standard room rates.
