activities bikingCycling enthusiasts of every sort will be pleasantly surprised & challenged by what the Mad River Valley has to offer. An expansive network of singletrack will appeal to the mountain biker, while road cyclists will appreciate the many miles of paved, lightly-trafficked blacktop. Our back roads, best enjoyed on hybrids, can be paved, gravel or dirt and offer some of the most amazing scenery you’ll experience anywhere.

activities hikingThe Green Mountains offer numerous hiking options, from gently rolling meadow trails to steep mountain climbs. The most popular hike is The Long Trail, which runs along the spine of the Green Mountains. It is easily reached from trailheads, with parking facilities, at both Lincoln Gap & Appalachian Gap. With advance notice, we can coordinate transportation to these trailheads from Weathertop Mountain Inn. There are many maintained trails throughout the Mad River Valley, including the Mill Brook Trail which runs directly behind the inn. Hiking is one of our favorite local pastimes. activities canoeThe Mad River, White River, Winooski River & Waterbury Reservoir all offer great opportunities for kayaking & canoeing. Equipment rental & guided trips are available locally. These rivers & their tributaries are also home to some of the finest fly fishing in New England. Native brookies, wild brown & rainbow trout are plentiful. For a refreshing plunge, there are several popular swimming holes in the area, including Warren Falls, Warren Riverside Park, Lareau Swimming Hole, Great Eddy & Ward’s Swimming Hole. Jones’ legendary course design talent is apparent on every one of the 18 holes at Sugarbush Golf Club. Looking for a new way to experience the Green Mountains? Try your skills at disc golf on one of two courses located at Sugarbush's Lincoln Peak Village. Ride up the chairlift for a downhill match, or play the rolling terrain of the base course. Single day & season passes are available. Click here for more details.

Waitsfield Farmers' Market

Waitsfield Farmers’ Market

activities marketThe Waitsfield Farmers’ Market is a not-to-be-missed event, held Saturday mornings on the Mad River Green, from May through October. In addition to local farmers, you’ll find local artisans, prepared foods of every ethnicity & live entertainment. The market is pet friendly, as long as your dog is well-behaved & leashed (a bandana is optional, but highly recommended...). This is a great place to “meet the locals”.


Baseball: Vermont Lake Monsters & Vermont Mountaineers

activities baseballNeed a baseball fix? Check out the Vermont Lake Monsters, an Oakland A's affiliate in the Class A Short-Season New York-Penn League. They play at Centennial Field in Burlington. Another option is The Vermont Mountaineers, a member of the New England Collegiate Baseball League. They play at Montpelier Recreation Field.
